Calendar for September 2001

Helmets are required on all Cascade Bicycle Club rides. All the rides are classified according to pace and the type of services provided by the ride leader. In order to pick the rides that suit your skills and energy level, please view the pace guidelines and ride classifications.

Cascade Bicycle Club does not sponsor or endorse any non-bicycling activities that people may participate in while on these rides. You are responsible for your conduct and decisions while on a Cascade ride.

Cascade membership and activities are open to everyone able and willing to participate in a safe and cooperative manner and in support of the purposes of the club.

It is not the practice of the Cascade Bicycle Club to exclude anyone from a club activity as long as they behave in a safe and cooperative manner.

Bellevue to Issaquah

A loop ride from Lake Washington out May Valley Road to Gilman Village for a food stop. Park is on Lake Washington, south of I-90. Take Exit 9 from I-405 and follow signs to park.

Vashon Island

A counter-clockwise loop of Vashon Island. Bring lunch to eat at Robinson Point Lighthouse on Maury Island. Arrive in time to catch 10:15am ferry. Park in Lincoln Park north parking lot.

Tom & Sara's South End Saunter/Lincoln Park to Pt Defiance

A slower pace but a very strenuous ride. Expect 4000 feet of elevation gain on this scenic hilly tour. We will return via Vashon & Maury Islands. Bring food, we will take breaks for water and rest but no real lunch stop. Meet in the upper parking lot as there are more parking spaces.

Come out and labor with us on a fun afternoon ride for those who attend church in the morning (the saints) or are recovering from last night (the sinners). No need to identify your category. We ride at high moderate to low brisk pace. Stop afterwards for a bite and brew.

Ride from Stanwood through the surrounding countryside. From I-5 take Exit 212, go west on Hwy 532 (approx. 6 miles) turn right at the 3rd light into the Viking Village. FRUMPS: Two Points and a Levee

Directions: From Hwy 167, exit at 84th and N Central, turn left (south) onto N Central, then right (west) onto James St. Follow James until it turns left (south) and becomes Russell Rd. Turn into the parking lot and meet by the restrooms. From I-5, take the Kent-Des Moines Exit, go east on the Kent-Des Moines Rd down the hill to Kent, then left at light on Meeker St. Cross river and turn left onto Russell Road into Park. We'll take the Green River and Interurban Trails to Auburn, up Peasley Canyon Road (our big hill), and around Steel Lake to Dash Point Road. We'll then drop to the Tacoma Tideflats and make our way onto the Puyallup River Levee Road and into Sumner for lunch. Return via the Interurban Trail. Jim will lead a moderate pace and Jan will lead those who prefer a social pace.

Discover the John Wayne Pioneer Trail

We will carpool from the Park & Ride, driving to Olallie State Park (five miles SW of North Bend). This is a rails-to-trails gravel railbed that includes a two-mile tunnel at Snoqualmie Pass. Lights required, and a mountain or hybrid bike suggested. Lunch at the Pass.

Ride around Mercer Island, through Bellevue and Redmond, and into some of rural King County before returning to Gasworks via the north end of Lake Washington. Bring food.

Let's Attend the Olympic Music Festival

Be at the Edmonds dock by 8:15am to catch the 8:40 boat. This is the last chance to attend the Olympic Music Festival this year. We will enjoy a scenic rural ride to hear the music-in-the-barn. This weekend features a "Piano Extravaganza for Four Hands" including music by Scarlatti, Schumann, Debussy, Mozart and Faure. Barn seating costs $22 in advance and $24 at the gate. Lawn seating costs $12 in advance and $14 at the gate. Advance purchase is recommended if you want to be sure to be able to sit in the barn. (Call 206/527-8839 for tickets.) If it rains, I'm willing to attempt to arrange carpooling to the festival. Bring money for ferry, food, and admittance.

We will meet at Edmonds terminal and catch the 10:10 ferry to Kingston. Advise parking at City Park on 3rd Ave about 1/2 mile south of ferry dock or on streets not time-restricted.

Come prepared for 5,000 to 6,000 ft of elevation gain. Leader's pace may be slow but this is a strenuous and very scenic ride. Bring water and snacks. Food is available in Packwood at 45 miles. Rain will cancel. Call leader to see if weather forecast will permit ride. Leader may reschedule ride later in week if weather forecast is not good.

A Ride for Kids With Diabetes

A ride especially for kids with diabetes. A chance to ride and talk with other kids who have diabetes. We will discuss bike safety and snacks, but don't forget to bring your parents for this fun bike ride. We will ride north on the Burke-Gilman Trail to Tracy Owen Station near Kenmore. We will play there for about 15 minutes, check your sugar if needed, have a snack, and return to Matthews Beach. For questions, please call before 8:00 pm.

Triple Bypass - White, Chinook, Cayuse Passes

Long strenuous ride over White, Chinook and Cayuse Passes. 10,000+ feet of climbing. Be prepared for a wide range of weather. No sag wagon, few food stops. Riders need to be in excellent condition with significant hill training. Contact ride leader Thursday prior to ride to determine if still scheduled. Departure point is 1.75 hours from Seattle.

Kids' Ride to Logboom Park

Kids, bring your parents for a bike ride. We will ride north on the Burke-Gilman Trail to Tracy Owen Station near Kenmore. We will play there for about 15 minutes and then return to Matthews Beach. For questions, please call before 8:00 pm.

Sno-Mon Loop

Please join us for a joint ride with the Evergreen Tandem Club that follows a scenic rural route through Maltby, Snohomish, and Monroe. Single bikes are always welcome. We will stop at the Snohomish Pie Company, so bring money for goodies and also bring your own food. This is a training ride so we won't linger too long, but we will make plenty of stops for photo ops, restrooms, and snacks. Post-ride brew and eats at the Woodinville Red Hook Brewery's Forecasters Pub. From I-405 take eastbound Exit 23 (522 toward Monroe and Wenatchee) to the Woodinville exit. Turn right at the end of the exit ramp and go to NE 175th St (2nd light). Turn right again, cross the railroad tracks and turn left at the stop sign onto 202. Pass Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery on your right, and Columbia Winery, Redhook Brewery, Herbfarm and Willows Lodge on your left. Go across the bridge over the Sammamish River and take the next left into the parking lot next to the softball fields. (Northshore Sports Complex).

Directions: Approaching Snohomish from the south on Airport Way, cross bridge, right on First St., through town, left on Maple, pass police station on left, go about two more blocks and park at Trailhead on right.

Sara's Southend Saunter - Sunrise, MRNP

An epic climb to Sunrise. Leader took 4 hrs up and 1 1/2 hrs to return. A 5,000+ ft gain. Bring food as there is none food available for this out and back ride. Also, bring lots of water. Milepost 49 is approximately 6 miles east of Greenwater, Hwy 410. Any rain forecast will cancel--please call leader to check on possibility of reschedule.
